Spotlight On: Peter Gabriel

_______________________________________________________________
Looking down on empty streets, all she can see
Are the dreams all made solid
Are the dreams all made real

All of the buildings, all of those cars
Were once just a dream
In somebody's head

Mercy Street is the 6th as well as my personal favourite track off of Peter Gabriel's 1986 album, So. I've been listening to this album quite a lot since I found it at the record shop. It was pretty much his peak as far as commercial success goes, and I'd be really surprised if someone wasn't familiar with at least one song. I remember my dad had this cd, and it got played on occaison in the truck when we were younger. Sledghammer's probably the best known song, and the music video for it is really cool too, I'll post it at the end. Songs like In your Eyes and Big Time were also successfull, probably breaking the top 40 pop or what not. But what makes this album one of my all time favourites is the presence of darker songs like Mercy Street, the opening track, Red Rain, and the duet, Don't Give Up. Now I'm not about to give my opinion on the lyrics or what I think the meaning and messages of the songs are, I'm not gonna search them up on some site and copy what they were originally written about either. I have ears, so do you hopefully, and we both know what we like to hear, regardless of one person's interpretation. I'm writting about So because I enjoy it very much, and some songs are particularily significant because I associate certain times and places that I remember when I was listening to them. I'm sure everyone does that right? Associate memories with music that was playing at the moment. So maybe after reading this, you'll give some of these songs a listen, maybe look up the whole album, who knows maybe really enjoy it and add it to the soundtrack of your life.

<lj-embed id="12" />

Spotlight On: Sloan

______________________________________________________________
Saw these guys live tonight, what an amazing show it was.

<lj-embed id="11" />
Only weak point was that since it was free (high point) a lot of people weren't necessarily fans of the band and it was hard to get the crowd going sometimes. But all in all they kicked ass. Two funny points to mention: (1) the dude beside me couldn't clap in rhythm with the rest of the crowd if his life depended on it, but he was really high so all is forgiven and (2) the members of the band would switch instruments from time to time and the drummer (who looked like billy idol) became the guitarist and would sing vocals. But this confused the fuck outta me the first time because i was staring into space the first time they switched and I figured it was a completely different band. One fronted by Billy Idol apparently. Maybe that wasn't too funny to you, but the guys I was there with had a good laugh at my expense. Ah well, good times eh. That's enough for today, have a great one.

Come On All You Weary

______________________________________________________________
It's fucking raining out man, something serious.. and I just see now my window has a hole in it OH OH ITS SEEPING IN. Bah stupid rain can't hurt me! But it is dripping on my power bar.. Pfft what do I care if it WHOA LIGHTNING

Anywho, before going any further, watch this video. This band, God is an Astronaut, hails from Ireland, and are one of the best post-rock outfits I've come across in my muzak travels.

<lj-embed id="10" />

So maybe I'm a bit aggressive today, I did horribly on my exam today haha. Wasn't worth a whole lot anyways, so no biggie. I got my interview for a potential job thursday, so you know what that means: If I get it, no Iceland boogie :-( I'm really sad about it, but at the same time it's a pretty awesome job. It's with the space agency and I'd be living in Montreal with a bud. Gotta sacrifice sometimes, and besides I'm just postponing Iceland til 2009 or 10 I guess. I'll keep you guys posted on what happens.

So people who own hybrids are losers, I'm sorry to anyone of my friends who own hybrids (ya right lol) or to their parents, but you're parents are losers. AND NOT BECAUSE THEY CARE ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT. Let's get thats straight right now, I dont hate hate mother earth and I don't hate people who do their part to save the planet blah blah blah. What I do hate is how hybrid drivers think they're in some sorta fancy club and act all high and mighty whenever theyre in the presence of someone who's driving something not-so-fuel-efficient. (I know I didn't need hypens, I do what I want ok) They all wave to eachother and have to ackknoledge eachother's presence. They are all whiny tree huggers who act like snobs to regular folk. Some of you might even have seen the south park episode that covered this topic...

And it's not even so much every type of hybrid as it is Prius owners. You know who you are, so fuck off! Ok so at this point you think I'm going way overboard right? WRONG. I searched around a Prius site and found this comment left by a douchebag that embodies exactly what I've been saying.

" The gasoline engine of the Prius is a marvel of engineering and efficiency. My family owns 3 Priuses(?) and we definitely can say that driving these vehicles, which are rated PZEV (Partial Zero Emission Vehicle), makes a significant difference in OUR personal contribution to pollution due to vehicle emissions. We feel GREAT about that. If every multi-car family had just one car like the Prius for running errands and commuting to work or school, our dependence on foreign oil could potentially be eliminated.
This is merely one aspect of how we choose to live our lives. We aggresively recycle, buy organic whenever possible, and try NOT to live "disposable". I realize that simply being on this Earth means I contribute to polluting it, but I can say I am doing it far less than most people. "

I know he means well.. but 3 Priuses??? WTF who is this dude?! Anyways if you still disagree with me and see nothing fucked about that comment, that's fine maybe I am out of touch. At the risk of sounding like Cartman, I hate tree hugging hippies and I think they should be nuked. ADIOS!

Can't wait for the next topic to be discussed? Too f-ing bad, just wait. It'll be about goths I think, so stay tuned!

Doesn't Anyone Want to Write Anymore?

_________________________________________________________
Seems like all of the people who jumped on the blog wagon earlier this month have given up and gone home. I'll admit I've been slacking lately too, but that's gonna change starting today. So to all my faithful readers: don't worry, James is back and he's got a whole lot of pointless subjects to discuss.

Today's topic is gonna be bigfoot and why people shouldn't cast him aside so quickly as myth. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those nuts that's convinced he's real and I don't get into fist fights when I meet a skeptic. It's good to skeptical, of everything really. But it's those people who can't and won't accept the fact that his existance is well within the realm of possibility that really piss me off. Panda bears were considered myths to pretty much the entire world outside of China only 150 yrs ago, so couldn't another big ass animal be out there still undiscovered. Persumbaly they're a little smarter than pandas, no offence to pandas but they're fucking bears, they eat garbage. They're basically big racoons when you think about it. Anyways.. theres tonnes of evidence, albeit circumstancial (besides some cases of DNA samples from hair) out there to support the fact that bigfoot MIGHT just be out there, maybe watching you or me (probably me) when taking those bush walks at night. "But we would see them often if they existed in the woods". Maybe, but consider mountain lions.. some park rangers go 30 yrs basically working in and around the bush and never get to see one. Now upgrade a cougars intelligence and maybe that explains the lack of sightings on film. Getting a cougar on film isn't all that common either apparently, I checked out youtube and it's basically them getting filmed while eating a deer or something, and lots of them are pretty grainy I might add. A lot like a video we all know taken back in 67'. I'll post it at the bottom. Other thing is, maybe we don't find carcasses because they bury their dead or something, who knows. I'm not saying he definatly exists, not by a long shot, but I sure hope so. Kinda makes this world more interesting when we find out we didn't know everything afterall.

So why's this a music post you ask? Well to commemorate bigfoot's existance (if he does) I'm posting a track called Bigfoot 69' by a band called Midnite Snake. Play/download it from here:

http://mp34u.muzic.com/posting/5861

What's not to like about this song? Bigfoot's cool, the band name is cool and 69 is cool, and psychadelic music is cool.. so you tell me what's not to like. Enjoy.

Tune in tomorrow when I discuss my beef with hybrids, or more specifically, their owners.

<lj-embed id="9" />
It's important to note a lot of time and money has gone into debunking this video in the past 40 yrs, and so far nothing has come up.

After 10,000 Years I'm Free! It's Time To Take Over Earth!

_____________________________________________________________________________
It's been an entire weekend since I last posted.. both my readers must have been wondering where I've been (sry to keep you hanging guys). As lazy as this weekend was, schoolwork-wise, it just didn't quite live up to what I was hoping it'd been. Friday night was a bust so I ended up going for a 4-or so hour walk west of Waterloo, well into the farmlands. On Saturday it rained a good amount (see pic below), but I still managed to hit up a couple of record stores in the area, and went to go see Get Smart with my roomate. It surpassed my expectations, made me laugh a lot. Keep in mind I'm kinda easily impressed by movies in general. In the evening a friend from back home (home in the north) was in town and we hit up the camp fire they had on campus. What a shitty fucking fire, I tell you.. you can put a buncha eggheads together and make them solve complicated math/science problems, but don't expect much when you get them to put a fire together. All in all, the smores we made were pretty freaking delicious though. I got myself a pita after that encounter, was a mighty good supper. We treked up town afterwards and saw some freaks performing on the street. I fed some glass to a dude with tatoos on his face. It was actually real glass from a lightbulb, he loved it. Another guy juggled flaming batons, and did all these cool card tricks, which I guess doesn't make him a freak per-say, but he's getting grouped up with the people he hangs out with. And on Sunday we had a soccer team sushi lunch. All you can eat sushi... It was awesome, we ate a ridiculous amount. I'm 100% sure they lost money because of us. Heh that'll show them!

This weekend I was also introduced to a really cool rock band from Vancouver called Black Mountain. They put out an album called In The Future this year, and it's a solid listen all the way through. My personal favourite track is Tyrants, or maybe it's Queens Will Play.. I can't decide right now. Bright Lights is just over 16 mins long, which doesn't come off as a good thing when you first think about it, but trust me: give it a listen, I dare you to listen to it and not enjoy it somehow. This band basically kicks ass, lots of psychadelic, lots of 70's rock influences, all things that are good.

Myspace offers a few tracks: http://www.myspace.com/blackmountain

<lj-embed id="8" />

heres a picture of the rain on Saturday. it made me wet.

Spotlight On -- Productivity

_______________________________________________________________________________
Went to class
Busted out 4 hour assignment while watching Resident Evil 1
Visited adventurer store
Gymed it up
Did dishes
Had supper (made new dirty dishes)
Went grocery shopping
Watched Resident Evil 2
did some neurotic adventuring
and did laundry

THIS my friends was my most productive day in a many many days. Just look at the mightiness of that list, you have to admit its pretty big... And I'm pretty damn tired right now, so this won't be a long entry. Since midterm season ended I feel like I'm on vacation. Well a vacation that requires me to go to class a few hours everyday, but still it's a nice change of pace. I'm beginning to look into the finer details surrounding my Iceland journey. I recently found out Toronto has a Mountain Equipment Coop, and not too far from the Greyhound station to boot. So, Tuesday I might swing on over there after class, see about finding a tent and who knows what else. Other than that not much else new to report. This weekend I'm saying fuck you to school, going out and hopefully get into some fun situations. Ah well I'm finito, time to hit the hay and recharge my batteries. I'll leave a funny clip from the british comedy, 'The Mighty Boosh', you don't need to know the background to find it funny, it's a bunch of shamans discussing random shit and arguing. ENJOY!
<lj-embed id="6" />

<lj-embed id="7" />

The Devil's My Pal
______________________________________________________________________
First of all, Gremlins 2 was nowhere near as good as the original.. I'd give it a 6/10 at best. 4 of those points are for the hot lead actress with the awesome hairdo. So Gremlins are off my computer and taking their place is the Resident Evil series. They've got a pretty hard act to follow but I'm sure guns and helicopters (plz let there be helicopters) will hold their own.

Today was our final soccer game of the regular season and it was against the (supposedly) top team in the league. I never doubted us for a second.. and we tied 0-0. It was one of those intense 0-0 games, you know with the blood and stuff and explosions, yea explosions. Playoffs begin next week, let the good times roll! Oh and our team name is The Jewbaccas, and no one can remember why/or knows why.

Bring on the muzak! Well I'm a big fan of this band called Matt Mays & El Torpedo. You might have heard of them, from Nova Scotia, they've had a wee bit of radio play for the past couple years. They've got a new album out this week called Terminal Romance, and tonight I gave it a few listens through. I'm going to give it a few more listens to let it sink in before giving my opinion, but so far I'm really impressed.

http://www.myspace.com/mattmayseltorpedo

Most of the album can be streamed from their myspace page, I recommend giving them a listen if you're into what I call "Neil Young-ish muzak". I've seen them 3 times now live, every time randomly, every time free for some reason. At the end of one of the shows, the guitarist passed by (cause I was snooping around his guitar case) and talked to me and a couple of my buddies, apparently he wasnt happy with his performance. We tried telling him we were really enjoying the music but you could see he was a sad panda that night. Jesus H Macy, quantum assignment drained me right the fuck out tonight, but dont worry guys I went for a midnight slushie run to recharge. Mmmmmmm blue flavour!

So I've decided to add an "Ultimate Scenario Question" section in my posts, and whoever is reading my entries can leave a comment with their answer and reasons why. It's basically to make me and the people laugh. "But why James? Thats fucking pointless!" What the people need is a way to make them smile, and it ain't so hard to do if you know how. Those are the words of the infamous Doobie Brothers, and I believe them to be the truth. So here goes for my first ever scenario question, you generally have to pick 1 of the 2 suggested scenarios:

Would you rather...
1) Have wings like an angel BUT only be able to actually use them to fly 1 hour every year. ORRRR
2) Never get sick again (includes aids and the flu and everything) BUT you have to study pigeons by yourself for a straight month every year.

Comment me your answers! Adieu people. Oh yea and I misplaced my belt so I wore a tie to keep my shorts up during soccer, imagine that.

<lj-embed id="4" />
___________________________________________________________________

I hate carolers! ..Buncha glue sniffers!"
I think that was the funniest quote from the cranky old woman in the movie, fuck I hated her so much. Ever watch a movie that has a character you actually hate, even though you know they're not real. No worries though because she got catapulted out of a window and died on impact. If that's not poetic justice I don't want to know what is! I'll see if I can't find the clip, it's satisfying to watch an old bag get served by pavement :D

That movie was a lot funnier than I expected.. If you've never watched Gremlins I highly recommend it if you're into the whole horror/dark comedy. Pretty sure it's rated PG or something, just in case you're put off by gory horror movies.. and in which case, you should toughen the fuck up. Here's a funny picture of one gremlin flashing the main chic:

        <lj-embed id="3" />

So I might as well make this whole post about gremlins eh, nothing really happened today anyways, just spent 4 pointless hours in a lab where I got nothing done and came home and spent another 4 or so hours writing another lab up. Ya.. I know I know, but some days you gotta pay your dues, you know what I mean? Tomorrow should be a good day, I hope the weather holds up like it has. Tonight was gorgeous, so hot but with a breeze. It made walking to the grocery store a pure liquid wonderment. Ah well. Guess that's it for now, hopefully someday I'll have my very own gremlin (...or maybe two!).

I Can Invent Place Names Too

______________________________________________________________________________
First thing's first: the math phys midterm was a force to be reckoned with. I was lucky enough to know someone with last year's test, and (thankfully) a couple of the questions re-appeared this year. Otherwise, I think I would have bit the bullet big time. Oh well easy come, easy go. Other than that, went paint balling today with a bunch of friends and friends of friends and well wishers. It was so fucking fun, let me tell you. Every shot I received hit my head: 3 in the back and 2 in the goggles (mcbain: the goggles do nawthing) haha. After that was done I hit up the KW (kitchener-waterloo) army surplus store looking for a one man tent. No luck... But I'll find one eventually. Have some faith in me, eh.

A funny side story: My buddy Scott messenges me tonight and askes "I heard this song on the radio last night at 2am, it reminded me of power rangers, do you know what it was". At first I had no fucking clue and wanted more info, BUT THEN it came to me like a flash of lightning: HIGHWAY STAR BY DEEP PURPLE!! and low and behold, I was right! My random music knowledge takes up about 1/3 of my brain, so if anyone needs to know the name of a song they've heard and only know the tune or whatever, gimme a shout, I'll see what I can do.

To finish this one off I'm gonna leave some awesome lyrics from Meat Loaf's 'Life Is a Lemon and I Want My Money Back'. PS; There's this dude that looks EXACTLY like Meat Loaf (see below) in physics, and we call him that. That's not too weird on its own, but get this: theres another kid that looks EXACTLY like Meat Loaf's Son (if he had one, I'm assuming he doesn't), we call him Meat Loaf Junior. PPS: I love non-physics Meat Loaf. Adios!

What about love? Its defective! Its always breaking in half

What about sex? ! Its defective! Its never built to really last

What about your family? Its defective! All the batteries are shot

What about your friends? Theyre defective! All the parts are out of stock

What about hope? Its defective! Its corroded and decayed

What about faith? Its defective! Its tattered and its frayed

What about your gods? Theyre defective! They forgot the warranty

What about your town? Its defective! Its a dead end street to me

What about your school? Its defective! Its a pack of useless lies

What about your work? Its defective! Its a crock and then you die

What about your childhood? Its defective! Its dead and buried in the past

What about your future? Its defective! And you can shove it up your ass!!

Well It's Allright, If You Live The Life You Please

_____________________________________________________________________________
It's all about the math phys midterm tomorrow, it has some serious potential to destroy each and every one of us, especially you! The readers at home! But don't worry your pretty head, James will make it all go away. I've spent a good chunk of the day going over the material, sorting non-sense from craziness. And as a result, my day's been a tad uneventful. I watched an x-men cartoon episode randomly in an effort to avoiding studying, that was my highlight of the day I guess. My roommate (who's also in physics) doesn't even need to study, I'm pretty sure he's gone to town to see a porno or something (that's my understanding anyways). The weekend will set me free right? Right! Well partially. My first paint balling experience might happen Saturday, which is good, but my weekend's also cursed with a pile of shit due Monday-bloody-Monday. After Monday though it's relatively smooth sailing for a week or so I think.

As a student, due dates and shit are pretty much my biggest responsibilities/concerns/whatever you wanna call it (proves how good life is right now). When I get bogged down music throws me a Tarzan vine and bails me out. And in particular, there's one song that never fails to cheer me up somewhat, no matter how bad things have seemed. Now imagine taking that song and playing it to a bunch of Thomas the Tank Engine clips. Well I don't know about you, but it made me smile a bunch.

<lj-embed id="2" />
The Traveling Wibury's were a supergroup from the late 80's era composed of George Harrison, (sometimes but not for this song) Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Jeff Lyne and Roy Orbison. It's got the train and railway rhythm sound to it. Everyone pitches in and sings a verse. It's got the on-the-move theme in the happy lyrics. This my friends is an awesome example of what I would consider an adventuring song. See ya at the end of the line.
_____________________________________________________________________________

Farewell-weekend Blues

_____________________________________________________________________________
The Good:

I went home this weekend to get some serious camping done. Mission accomplished. I ended up spending all weekend with my partner-in-crime, Phil. Our adventures included some kayaking (which I've never tried before and was fucking great) up rapids lol. We weren't able to get up, and in fact they kicked our asses. Phil ended up flipping his kayak and filling her up to the tits with water. Funny shit haha. And no, we "misplaced" our life jackets.. We shot off some old rescue flares too. They're a 12 gauge and have some serious kick to them! We each ending up with a few numb fingers after that, but it was more than worth it. Food, food and more food was another highlight of this weekend. You name it, we had it and ate it. Including our traditional saturday night/sunday morning "grill-em's" extravaganza (5 years and counting now haha). I even managed to squeeze in some time to act out my parts for the new "House of Brouse" episode that my friends, Kyle and Tyler Brouse put out every couple of months. If I find the link to the videos, ill post them here. Fishing, four-wheeling and fireworks were just a few of the other essential components to our good times. Oh! Best part of the weekend by far was seeing Phil run away from a firework and getting hit in the back.. Happy b-day Canada lol!

The Bad:

Sunburns and mosquitos, but who gives a shit about the bad.

The Ugly:

Woke up Saturday morning and decided to get rid of my long-ish hair. My new shaved look has been both complimented and compared to a redneck "ready to lynch people".. Thankfully the compliments have outnumbered the latter. But most imporantly, I'm really enjoying the new look.

+ Adventuring Update: I found a sweet military surplus bag, rubberized nylon and metal frame. Also located a compact sleeping bag that I'll be able to use for basically the price of a dry-cleaning bill. Things are coming along great. Next up on my list is a small one-man tent.

Hope everyone had just as good a weekend as mine was. Later. Canada Day >> Christmas
____________________________________________________________________________

Chicks, Cars, and Double Guitars
______________________________________________________________________________
ive.. got.. to... get... outta here! CALM BLUE OCEAN CALM BLUE OCEAN CALM BLUE OCEAN

Alright I'm exaggerating, I'm not stressed whatsoever. It's just that time of the season where you gotta actually sit down and learn the course material well enough to make it through the midterm and then forget it all, and that's taken up my fun time this week. Last night I took a nap at 11pm, woke up and learned all about transistors and amplifiers lol, good times. Today it's all about Hamiltonians, Lagrangians and uhhh their usefulness to everyday life problems? They're useless as tits on a bull as far as I'm concerned. But it's fun staying up late to see who stays on msn til the wee hours of the morning.. you know who you are, you buncha hippies.

But enough about that crap, where's the muzak? Her name's Marnie Stern and her song 'Every Single Line Means Something' has a certain quality that makes it stand out. No it's not simply because she's a kick ass female vocalist (a sound strickly similer to the chic from Yeah Yeah Yeahs but a little less intense.. or possibly the Sonic Youth chic), it might be the drumming. It's what I would call random but precise drumming, I lack imagination with words obviously. Here's a pic of her with one of those guitars that are double.. you know... double guitars. Whether or not she can play it is left up to you. (but i wouldn't put it past her, look at her face, she knows what she's doing)

<lj-embed id="1" />_________________________________________________________________________________

And Now for Something Completely Different

__________________________________________________________________________________
Ticking away, the moments that make up a dull day. Today kinda sucked, there's no way around it. School from 8:30 til 4-ish and homework afterwards. Nothing matters now but the weekend.. and only a couple of midterms stand in my way from now til then. Let's see now whats in the news today...
China plans Mount Everest restrictions to stop 'abuse' of peak
haha oh those Chinese, always up to some kinda shinanagans.

What's some words that rhyme with Everest anyways... meverest, kleverest, alamagorest. Jebus I can't wait to get out of this town... I needs me an adventure asap. One weekend in July I'm supposed to walk 100 km with a buddy. We tried last winter, but with my holy (hole-filled) footware my feet got really soaked with the snow that was semi-melting (stupid southern ontario pretend winters) and got really sick after 55 km. We vowed to reattempt it come nicer weather, but school's been stopping us so far. SO FAR.

Anyways, keep on fighting the good fight. I know I will.
__________________________________________________________________________________

No Sleep
________________________________________________________________________________
This might become just as much a music blog thing as an adventuring one. But first I have to say I'm so wired tonight.. a deadly combination of sleeping in late and something like 6-ish cups of coffee today. I stopped drinking coffee about a month ago, but here it is in my life again, like a bad fucking cold. I think a walk is in order after this, I'd normally go for a bike ride but it's busted up at the moment. Need to steal me some new parts to fix her up.

On to the muzak...

Today I'm pleased to say I found a pretty cool blues-rock band for the summer. First thing I did when I woke up this afternoon was walk over to the local record store, and by store I mean attic (literally, some dude's attic). It's called the Orange Monkey, and to anyone in Waterloo, it is an awesome attic - check it out now. Anyways, the band's called Carney, and if I had to assign them a desk in the classroom of rock acts, I'd sit them down somewhere between Led Zeppelin and The White Stripes. The members are apparently all pretty young, and their only release so far is only 4 tracks long, but it's only left me wanting to hear more from them.

It's all available for listen on their myspace page: www.myspace.com/carneytheband

Also watched a movie called In Bruges tonight. It was a funny-thriller british movie about two hitmen hiding out in Belgium, kinda reminded me of the movie Snatch in some ways. It's got my recommendation, enjoy.
________________________________________________________________________________

_________________________________________________________________________________
I don't have a god damned thing to say today.
Except for the fact that I spent the better part of the day busting out an essay, which sounds easy enough right? Oh Jesus H was it ever long, but keep in mind I'm in physics and I can barely write my own name.
Other than that it's been a very quiet weekend, haven't done a thing besides a little climbing with my buddy.
I did learn how to play the riff from 'The Joker' by the Steve Miller Band on bass, it's so fun to play those kinds of songs cause almost everyone instantly recognizes them.
Tomorrows all about a formal lab write up on atomic force microscopes or chocolat microscopes or something, I don't rightfully remember.
Iceland preparation update: I'm still going at the oatmeal, but it's getting kinda boring. Oh and never mix grape juice with vanilla nut tea, my god that tasted worse than celery..
That's it for now, maybe some real news will happen tomorrow.
________________________________________________________________________________
"Now I moved from Mississippi about 1943, I don't quite recollect where I ended up..
..There's one thing I never ask myself, and that's 'where am I gonna be, tomorrow?'".

That's my favourite lyric from a song called 'Down to my Grave' by The Ironweed Project.
Argh! It Tastes Terrible

________________________________________________________________________________
I've got about two and a half months before my great Icelandic journey begins, and in preparation I've begun to eat oatmeal (both in the morning and apparently as an extra late meal as I write this). Don't let the title fool you, I don't mind oatmeal... so far. I'm expecting to go as much as 2 weeks between towns, and it's got me a wee bit concerned about food selection, that' all. I imagine it will be a useful choice to have on the road as it's pretty light, keeps well and is fairly healthy. My reasoning is, if I begin to eat it now and get accustomed, it'll be less of a shock to my body if I have to go a couple of days on it.

A little extreme maybe, but this is just the start. ITS STILL BETTER THAN CREAM CORN (aka cream crap). Once through these stupid midterms, I'm really going to get things rolling.

_______________________________________________________________________________

_________________________________________________________________________________

Good old Wikipedia defines an adventurer or adventuress as a term that usually takes one of three meanings:

One whose travels are unusual and often exotic, though not so unique as to qualify as exploration.

One who lives by their wits.

One who takes part in a risky or speculative course of action for profit or position.

I don't think any of these quite nail it. Perhaps if I were better spoken and more experienced I could propose my own definition. As soon as I figure it out I'll write it down, but for now I'll leave it at that.
_________________________________________________________________________________
